What Happens If It Rains?

What Happens If It Rains?

Rain Is Good Luck, Right?

Rain. One of the most feared possibilities to happen on a wedding day. We do all the wedding planning and paint a picture of a perfect day in our minds. Our perfect picture, of course, includes the sunshine. However, rain isn’t always a bad thing! Actually, some would say it’s considered good luck!

On my wedding day, it didn’t just rain but poured! We actually had a tornado warning! The ceremony was gorgeous, outside by a stunning pond at Crago Farms. Just as the ceremony ended the winds picked up. I stepped in horse manure, my veil went flying into the pond, and it RAINEDDDD. Not only did it rain, but it hailed, which spooked my horse. He got loose and started running right towards our reception tent. Needless to say, my day was eventful and unplanned for.

I don’t mean to scare any brides, the reason why I tell this story is that it made my wedding SO memorable and fun! The storm eventually passed, and we were able to go outside and enjoy the rest of the wedding day.

As a bride, we want our day to be perfect. But sometimes the imperfect doesn’t just make our day memorable but it makes it truly amazing. When it rained on my wedding day it changed our plans. But everyone was more relaxed, happy. Our guests went along with everything and had a great time!

My biggest advice to Brides, however, is to think about the possibility of rain on your wedding day. Being prepared will make your day stress-free and run smoothly. Here are some tips for a rainy day.

Have a backup plan.

It’s SO important to have a backup plan if it rains. For me, we had an outdoor tent but had a plan to move into the barn if it started to rain. Having a backup plan for any outdoor ceremony/reception is an absolute must!

Don’t stress if it does rain.

The biggest piece of advice I got on my wedding day was don’t sweat the small stuff. When it began to rain on our day, a good friend came up to me and said “smile.” Everyone turns to the Bride when something happens. If you are still smiling and stress-free you set the tone for the other guests. I am SO grateful for that friend who told me to “smile” even though I was freaking out inside.

Grab some clear bubble umbrellas just in case.

Bubble umbrellas are absolute lifesavers! Having a few of these for you and your bridal party comes in handy for outdoor photos. They are great to stay dry but still document your day!

Plan on still going out for photos.

Most of the time, showers pass or have a break in the rain. Still, plan on going outside for photos! Afterall, who doesn’t love dancing in the rain?! Right?!

Sometimes the rain allows for even more creative images.

Rain is still beautiful and I have SO much fun capturing rainy portraits! This allows for more intimate poses and fun shots! You will love your photos, I promise!
