Tips For Photographing A Vacation
How To Document and Enjoy Your Trip
As many people are getting ready to go on vacation, I thought it would be a great idea to share some of my tips for taking photos while you are on vacation! It is so important to take pictures on vacation because those memories will truly last a lifetime. Sure, a lot of people have their phones on them, but if you have a digital camera then go ahead and bring it! Keep these 5 tips in mind while you are on your next vacation!
1) Take your phone or camera with you everywhere you go
Although it can be bulky to carry your camera around, it will all be worth it to get those pictures. I always carry my Nikon D750 camera along with a 50mm lens, and as well as my film camera.
2) Photograph your friends or family
It can get kind of boring just taking pictures of different buildings, or the beach. So to make it more personal and fun, you can pose your friends or family in the pictures. But don’t make them look too posed. They can simply be talking and laughing together, or sitting down at an ice cream shop. Just make sure that they look like they are being themselves and not too posed
3) Take a step back
When you go to an attraction while you are on vacation, most times you probably won’t think of taking pictures all the way back from the entrance. I know most people don’t want crowds of people in their pictures, but if you think about it, that adds to the picture and it shows off the atmosphere. Think about going to Disney World and seeing Cinderella’s castle for the first time. To get the whole castle in the picture, there will have to be many people in it. Once you get a picture of the entire castle, move closer to the structure and get detailed pictures.
4) Tell a story
Let’s say you are going to an amusement park with the family. If you think about it, telling a story about this through photographs can be easy! Start by taking a picture of the entrance of the park, you can add in the family if you want to make it extra personal. Then take pictures of your family walking to a rollercoaster, while they wait in line, and maybe even while they are on the ride! When you take a break for lunch or ice cream don’t forget to take pictures of where you eat and your food!! That way if it was good you can remember what the restaurant is called and what you got. By taking pictures throughout the whole day it is an easy way to put them together and it will make it feel like a story.
5) Hand the camera off to someone else
Hand the camera off to someone so you can be in a few pictures as well. This is a very important tip!! A lot of times as a photographer, I am always behind the camera. So there are times where there aren’t many pictures of me from certain vacations or events. Make sure that you also get in pictures! You can get the camera all ready and then hand it off to someone. You will be so glad that you did this in the end!
