Hi, Friends! I’m so glad you are here for week 3 of my six blog post series, Posing 101! I can’t wait to share with you this pose which I call, Side By Side. I love this pose for when my couples are warmed up and feeling relaxed in my session. This is a more posed style but allows for natural movement!
Side by side is exactly what it sounds like, my couples are side by side to each other. I love this pose because it is more of a traditional twist on portrait photography. There are a couple of variations to this pose which I love.
Have your couples hold hands but angle into each other forming a “V.” From there you can have the groom look at the bride while she looks at the camera or over her shoulder. They can look at each other, go in for a kiss. The possibilities are endless.
Another variation is the groom put both hands in his pockets and face the camera (feet pointing towards the camera). Have her wrap her hands around his arm. They can look at you, look at each other, or go in for a kiss.
A variation to that pose is to have the groom do the exact same thing (both hands in his pockets and feet pointing towards the camera) but have her angle her body in towards him. You can have her wrap one hand around his neck drawing him in for a kiss, or just have them sweetly look at each other!
Lastly, another favorite side-by-side pose is the twirl! For this one, have the groom put his hand furthest away from the bride into his pocket. Have her with her hand furthest away from him pick up a piece of her dress. Have him half twirl her (this can be done at the walk with big swishing movements of her dress) while she looks down over her shoulder. A few things to note, the arm holding the dress, make sure it is straight and have him smiling at her the entire time!
