We have made it to week 6 of my Posing 101 blog series! I’m so excited to share with you my final go-to pose for this series! I call this one Flash Those Eyes. For this style, it’s not necessarily a pose but a tighter shot on the poses we talked about in the previous weeks.
When you have your couple in a directed pose, make sure you capture a tight shot of all the details. For me, I love to focus on my bride’s eyelashes, veil or smile. This is a fun way to get more diverse images out of one pose. It seems so simple but during a session, it can be hard to remember to capture what is in front of you, from the tiny details to the wide landscape shot. I try not to have my couples changing poses a lot. I find that they get stressed and they don’t have time to relax and just be themselves. If you can give them time in each direction by capturing different angles, it allows them to relax and have fun. I also find that playing music during sessions is fun for everyone and cuts that awkward silence when you’re shooting.
Also, try tighter shots from different heights. Get on a step stool and shoot down on your couple. This is useful for eyelashes in particular. Practice layering your image. Shoot through flowers, fabric or doorways. This adds interest to the photo and is a lot of fun to capture!
