Josh Staley Productions

Wedding DJ

My name is Josh Staley, and I’m the owner and founder of Josh Staley Productions. I started our company after my wife and I had an awkward, flaky, and embarrassing DJ at our wedding; I knew that I could do better and that brides and grooms deserved better. Today, Josh Staley Productions is one of the largest companies in Columbus. We specialize in custom, unforgettable, and stress-free wedding days which is all summed up in our motto “Experience Excellence.”

Personally, my favorite part of the wedding day happens later in the night after all the formalities are over. The bride & groom reappear on the dance floor after chatting with guests who may have headed out early, and their friends gather all around them and the party gets kicked up a notch. The atmosphere turns into a total celebration of the marriage that has just begun, and it’s all about making unforgettable memories from there.

When should you book a DJ?

The short answer is, book your DJ as soon as possible! Premier DJs book out up a year or more in advance, so especially if your wedding is on a Saturday during the warmer months, start your search early in the wedding planning process! A great DJ will also help you plan your reception timeline, so having them on board when working out details with other vendors can be extremely helpful.

What should you expect from your DJ?

I can’t speak for other companies, but with Josh Staley Productions, you can expect professionalism, quick responses, and stress-free experience. All of our DJs go above and beyond to give our brides and grooms a great experience that is customized to their dream wedding day. We don’t just copy and paste your song choices into a cookie-cutter formula; instead, we take time to get to know you and give you the dream day that is uniquely you!

Why should you hire a professional wedding DJ?

Sure, your college friend or Uncle Joe might have some speakers and an iPod, but the skill of a professional DJ goes far beyond just playing music. A great DJ will guide you and your guests throughout the entire evening– they will announce you into the room, tell your guests where to look (and when!), and play the music that will keep them there all night. They will make sure that the microphones are set properly so every guest in the room can hear the toasts, and will live mix a custom playlist to ensure that all your guests have an amazing time on the dance floor. Even more importantly, a professional DJ will keep the evening running smoothly so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the party you’ve spent months planning! No stress, no one asking you questions about dinner or cake-cutting… just celebrating with the people you love most.

The DJ/MC will be the face of your wedding day once the vows have been said and the reception begins. A great DJ will guarantee that your guests have an amazing time, and even better, they will make sure that YOU have the time of your life. No stress, no one asking you questions about dinner or cake-cutting… just celebrating with the people you love most. A professional DJ will when you hire a friend, lines between friend and working are fuzzy. Live mixing. MC skills. Reading a dance floor and creating a great playlist.

Tips for Brides

• A recent wedding wire poll said that 80% of couples wish they had spent more on entertainment. Not all DJs are created equal, so if entertainment is important to you, do your research and book early! Don’t let a few hundred dollars stand in the way of you and a smooth, unforgettable reception.

• When you’re planning the length of your reception, know your crowd! If you don’t expect many people to flood the dance floor, we recommend limiting the length of the open dancing to 1-2 hours. There’s nothing wrong with that! If your friends and family are big dancers and love a good party, you can get away with 3-4 hours of open dancing. Whatever the length you choose, always be ready to end on a high note!

• If at all possible, don’t let the cocktail hour go longer than one hour. A cocktail hour that’s too long can kill the party before it gets started because your guests are restless before the festivities even begin.
